If you put your answer in the comment section, please just remember to write your first name. Who can guess the most?! Here is a hint, there will be no repeats.

Also, if you want to make clues for us to try to solve, you can. I would love to play too. :) Just pick a state, research it with 5 clues.

Clue 2: This state is the top producer of apples in the United States.

Clue 3: The first-ever revolving restaurant opened in this state in 1961.

Clue 4: This state is the only state named after a U.S. president.

Clue 5: This state is the home of Mount St. Helen's, a semi-active volcano that erupted in 1980.

March 25 - Hiccough

Hi Boys and Girls,
Well, today's an interesting blog post. Hiccups?! I hate when I have them. They are uncomfortable and hurt. Do you enjoy them. After reading about them, I found on this on Wonderopolis - https://www.wonderopolis.org/wonder/how-do-you-get-rid-of-hiccups

So many questions!?!? So little time.

****

Word of the Day:
Hiccough - a quick inhalation stopped by the closing of the "glottis" (little thing flappy thing in your throat) producing a peculiar sound. Also spelled hiccup.

Did you know today?!
Today in 1769 ...
* A Newcastle (UK) man was admitted into the hospital because of his hiccoughs. They could be heard over a half-mile away.
* A pig farmer once had the hiccoughs for over 65 years. Makes you wonder if this record still holds true?!!? I would love for you to write it in the comment section.
* Men get hiccoughs more often than woman.
* Swallowing a spoonful of sugar is reported as being 95% percent successful in curing hiccoughs. - What do you do when you have hiccoughs? I would love for you to write it in the comment section.

Writing Activity:
Hic. You got them this morning. Hic. And now it's afternoon. Hic. And they're still here. You've tried everything. Hic. Breathing into a paperbag. Holding her breath. Hic Being scared by friends. Hic. And nothing works. Nothing! Write about what you will - hic! - do.

Please post in the comment section. I can't wait to hear your story.

March 24 - Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh?! This is a wonderful post since I love Disney!!

****

Word of the Day:
Picture - a visual representation created on a surface. From the Latin "pictura" (to paint).

Did you know today?!
Today in 1974: Ernest Shepard, illustrator of the original Winnie the Pooh and Wind in the Willows books died. Shepard's childhood nickname was "giddy kipper." Shephard based his drawings of Winnie the Pooh on his son's bear, Growler. Winnie-the-Pooh was named after a bear cub that (the real) Christopher Robin saw at the London Zoo. The cub had been found in Winnipeg, Canada.

ACTIVITY:
Write a story based on the toys you had as a small child. Did you have a favorite bear? A doll? An action figure? A special blanket?

or

In the comment section, just tell me about it. What was the toy and why was it your favorite.
Also, take a picture and email it to me. I would love to see how it looks! (tknavel@mycrcs.org)

Quote of the Day Activity:
"Books are a uniquely portable magic." - Stephen King, author

So what do you think about this quote. Thoughts? Explanations? Examples in your own life? Please post in the comment section. I can't wait to hear what you think.

Reading - What are you reading!?

Hi Boys and Girls,
"Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are." - Mason Cooley

I saw this quote and it is perfect for the situation we are in!

I am not sure if you know this about me, but I LOVE to read. When I start to read a good book, it is hard for me to put it down and do other things. So while I am away from you all, I will be reading a lot!!!

I just finished a fantastic book. The book is called Prisoner B-3087 by Alan Gratz. I really enjoyed the style of writing and was thinking about using it for a book club/discussion with you all.  However, I think it would be better if you were a little older - like in Middle School. The story was about a Jewish boy who survived different 10 concentration camps during WW2. It talked about the horrible conditions, the torture and how he staved and worked to survive. The story is based on a true story which makes it harder and sadder to fully understand.

So I have a book where I write down books or stories I want to read. It is like a running "To Read List." So if you do something similar, I do recommend you put it on the list but wait until you are a little older. Just don't forget about it.

Now I need your help?! What are you reading? Are you enjoying it? What is good about it? If you aren't enjoying it, why not? I need some new book titles to add to my list.

Remember, you can download books from the library's website. If you need any help, feel free to email Ms. Sprague and she can give you directions.

Miss you all!

He also created Melba sauce and peach Melba.
